KERRVILLE, Texas — The search for two people still missing after the July 4 flood in Kerr County is far from over.
Kerrville Mayor Joe Herring Jr. says crews are actively working at Nimitz Lake in what is now a recovery operation for Cile Steward and Jeff Ramsey.
Officials say the lake has already been carefully mapped, with hundreds of potential search areas identified, and more being added as divers continue their work.
But this process won’t be quick.
Leaders say the search could stretch into November or even December, as crews work through two phases: first removing debris, then tackling layers of silt.
Despite the long road ahead, the mayor says the teams on the ground are highly trained and committed to bringing answers to the families.
“This will take time,” Herring said, calling the effort thorough and compassionate.
City leaders also emphasized that Kerrville’s water treatment plant is being closely monitored to ensure the community’s drinking water remains safe throughout the operation.
