ARLINGTON, Texas — The curtains that Jerry Jones refuses to use will be in action during the World Cup. Well, for at least one match.
Front Office Sports was first to report that the controversial curtains -- mainly the lack of their use -- would not be an issue for players on Japan or Sweden when they take the fresh grass pitch (another hot topic) in AT&T Stadium, which will be re-branded as Dallas Stadium for the 39-day tournament (we hit the trifecta!).
WFAA confirmed with sources that the curtains are set to be deployed for the Japan-Sweden match, which kicks off at 6 p.m. CT on June 25. The other matches being held at Dallas Stadium start at either 3 p.m., noon, 9 p.m., 1 p.m. or 2 p.m. The stadium crew will assess the other situations individually and decide whether curtains need to be utilized for those matches.
This continues the longstanding frustration (mainly Cowboys fans) from locals that the curtains get used for essentially every other event held within Jerry World except for Cowboys games. WFAA even detailed five different instances where the Cowboys were hindered by the sunlight.
But insert a Jake Paul boxing match, Wrestlemania, or now apparently a World Cup soccer match and suddenly the curtains will make an appearance.
Just throw this one into the bucket of things Jones will stubbornly not change. Spoiler: The grass field isn't staying in place, either.
