FLORIDA, USA — The best time to get your hurricane supplies together is before a storm is on the way. So, it is never too early to start building your disaster supply kit.
Here's a disaster supply kit checklist, provided by the Florida Department of Emergency Management, that you can use as a starting point:

General
- 2-week supply of medication
- List of allergies
- Required medical devices and accompanying information
- Batteries
- Flashlights
- NOAA weather radio
- Cash
- Phone chargers
- Books, games, puzzles
Food and water
- Nonperishable packaged or canned food and beverages
- Snack foods
- Specialty dietary items to last 7 days
- Water (1 gallon per person per day)
- Can opener
- Paper plates, napkins and utensils
Important documents (keep in waterproof container)
- Insurance cards
- Medical records
- Banking information
- Credit card numbers
- Copies of Social Security cards
- Copies of birth and marriage certificates
- Copy of will
- Set of car and house keys
- List of important phone numbers, including doctors and county emergency management offices
Additional items
- Rain gear such as jackets, hats, umbrellas and rain boots
- Sturdy shoes or boots and work gloves
- Pet food and water
- Pet carriers, medications and medical information
- First aid kit
