CONVERSE, Texas — Talk about going above and beyond the call of duty.

Firefighters with the Converse Fire Department recently helped a stranded bird spread its wings again after a concerned resident spent hours trying to find help.

The caller first reached out to a game warden and several other agencies, but kept coming up empty-beaked. Refusing to leave the bird in a flap, she finally called the fire department.

Good thing she did.

Firefighters swooped into action and safely rescued the feathered friend, giving the bird a second chance to take flight.

The department says helping people will always be their top priority, but occasionally answering a wildlife distress call is just as rewarding.

Seeing the relief on the resident's face after the rescue made the call one the crew won't soon forget.

The rescue is a reminder that whether it's two legs, four legs or a pair of wings, Converse firefighters are always ready to flock together when someone needs help.

Now that's something to chirp about.
