Attorney for Dallas apartment complex that exploded Thursday claims local drilling company responsible for fatal blast

The explosion and fire in the Oak Cliff neighborhood killed three people and injured several others.

DALLAS — Attorneys for the Oak Cliff apartment that exploded on May 28 claim an Addison-based company was responsible for the gas leak that set the complex ablaze.

Geoff Henley of the law firm Henley & Henley said in a press release that evidence shows Barba Drilling Company had been working at the complex, known as The Clyde, when the gas leak occurred.

“Barba’s truck was effectively at ground zero of the explosion,” Henley said in the press release.

Henley said he was frustrated with the investigation into the explosion.

“We’re not getting our questions answered or access to our only property,” Henley said in the release. “We’re having to piece this big puzzle together one piece at a time over time—when it is more than apparent that Atmos and government investigators have a far more complete picture of how this catastrophe occurred.”

WFAA has reached out to Barba Drilling Company by phone and email but has yet to receive a response.

The Clyde exploded on May 28, setting the complex on fire, killing three and injuring several others.

Atmos Energy Corporation has said since the incident that a contractor unrelated to it was working on the site when the explosion occurred. Despite this, a lawsuit has been filed against Atmos Energy over the fatal explosion and fire that followed, claiming negligence by the company contributed to the blast.
